Late harvesting has benefitted the youth of the vines. The complexity of the inherent flavours can only be truly understood by sampling at traditional competition temperatures. Expect not just the initial youthful exuberance of "new world wines". The initial nose indicates the fruit flavours including gooseberry and nashi pear. Residual sugars still maintain dry and balanced flavours. An ideal wine match for chicken or seafood dishes.
Wine Review by Sam Kim Wine Orbit 5 Star Rating - Outstanding quality showing varietal purity and exemplifying regional type Beautifully maturing, the wine shows poached pear, baked apple, potpourri, and warm spice aromas on the nose. The palate displays excellent weight and supple texture, well framed by fine acidity, making it flavoursome and balanced with a lengthy, expansive finish. At its best: now to 2027
Wine Review by Yvonne Lorkin Lansdowne Estate Wairarapa Pinot Gris 2017 Gorgeously golden in the glass, this (wait for it) nine-year-old pinot gris is absolutely roaring into its maturing years with a lacing of fresh fennel, poached quince, a squeak of apple crumble characters and finishes with silky, lush texture. Grown in Masterton and made by Karl Johner of Johner Estate, here is an excellent example of how great pinot gris can age gracefully and tastefully

Michael Cooper's Buyers's Guide for Lansdowne Estate Masterton Wairarapa Pinot Gris
I tasted the 2014, 2015 and 2018 vintages of this northern Wairarapa wine in early 2021. Still drinking well, the 2014 vintage (4*) is a light gold/green, weighty wine with rich, peachy, vaguely honeyed flavours. My pick of the trio is the bright, light yellow/green 2015 vintage (5*). Highly fragrant, it has impressive intensity of stonefruit and spice flavours, bottle-aged complexity and a rich finish. Still developing, the 2018 vintage (4.5*) is mouthfilling, with concentrated citrus and stone-fruit flavours, fresh acidity, and a dry, lively finish. Best drinking 2022+.
