Michale Cooper's buyers's Guide for Lansdowne Estate Masterton Wairarapa Syrah (2015)
A wine to ponder over, the 2015 vintage (5*) was hand-harvvested from estate-grown vines, planted in 2004. A distinctive and seductive red, it is less dense and firmly structured than many top Hawke's Bay Syrahs, with a more Pinot Noir-ish 'feel'. It has moderately youthful, deep ruby colour and a highly perfumed, spicy, bouquet. Full-bodied, it is very refined, with deep, ripe plum and red berry flavours, hints of spices and nuts, and a very harmonious, silky-textured finish. Graceful, delicate and subtle, it offers delicious drinking from now onwards.
